PROJECT OVERVIEW
Vineyard Wind 1
FEDERAL SCRUTINY: On January 27, a federal judge for the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts stayed the Department of Interior's stop-work order for Vineyard Wind, allowing the project to resume construction. On January 16, 2026, Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners had filed a complaint in U.S. District Court challenging the Department of Interior's stop-work order.
On December 22, 2025, the Department of the Interior paused the leases of five offshore wind projects under construction off the East Coast, including Vineyard Wind 1, due to unspecified national security concerns.
NOTE: As of October 10, 2025, Vineyard Wind 1 was operating at 50% capacity and sending power into the New England grid. The project will be recategorized as "Generating" when it is officially commissioned and reaches full capacity. Read more about the project's progress below.
