UPDATE: On August 28, the California Attorney General filed a lawsuit against the Department of the Interior, Department of Justice, and Golden State Wind asking the U.S. District Court for Northern California to declare the lease buyout as unlawful. FEDERAL LEASE BUYOUT UPDATE: On April 27, 2026, leaseholder Golden State Wind signed an agreement with the Department of Interior to relinquish its previously held lease area, OCS-P 0564, in exchange for a payment of $120 million. As a result, Golden State Wind will no longer develop an offshore wind projects in this lease area, and the lease area have been marked "Federal Buyout Area."
