Empire Wind 1
FEDERAL SCRUTINY: On January 15, 2026, a judge for the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia issued a preliminary injunction against the Department of Interior's order to pause Empire Wind's lease. This temporary injunction allows Empire Wind to resume construction as Empire Wind's lawsuit against Interior proceeds.
On December 22, 2025, the Department of the Interior paused the leases of five offshore wind projects under construction off the East Coast, including Empire Wind 1, due to unspecified national security concerns.
On May 19, 2025, BOEM lifted its April 16, 2025 stop-work order on Empire Wind 1, and construction had resumed.
