Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind
FEDERAL SCRUTINY: On January 16, 2025, a judge for the U.S. District Court for the District of Eastern Virginia allowed Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind to temporarily resume construction. The judge issued a temporary injunction against the Department of Interior’s suspension of the project’s lease. On December 23, Dominion had filed a complaint in federal court asking for the December 22 pause on construction to be lifted.
On December 22, 2025, the Department of the Interior paused the leases of five offshore wind projects under construction off the East Coast, including Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind, due to unspecified national security concerns.
On December 23, Dominion Energy Virginia filed a complaint in US District Court asking for the recent Department of Interior order to be blocked.
